ANDRITZ rotating drum screens – Girapac and Girasieve – are enclosed, compact, and stand-alone units, for pre-treatment of industrial and municipal wastewater.

These rotating drum screen provides high solid/liquid separation, as well as sieving, desanding, degreasing, and additionally, the Girapac allows compacting and bagging of waste in one unit.

Operating Principle

The effluent feeds a distribution tank before passing over the upper part of the filter drum. Then, it passes through the filter screen, and waste particles larger than the mesh are deposited on the drum and carried away towards the discharge zone. The particles removed when coming into contact with the scraper drop into the screw compactor. The water falls through the lower part of the drum, ensuring self-cleaning of the filter screen by eliminating the remaining impurities. An internal washing ramp is used to complete the cleaning of the drum.

In the Girapac system, the waste is conveyed by a shaftless screw towards a compacting zone and then drops into a plastic bagging unit. Filtrates generated in the compacting zone are guided to the drum filtrate tank.

The average lifetime of an Andrtiz filter press is over 30 years.

With Andritz filter presses, the highest dry substance (DS) content can be achieved without additional heat consumption, and even smaller particle sizes can be retained in the filter press. Andritz will provide the right filter plates, cloths, or other components to achieve the exact degree of dewatering required.

Filter element technologies:

Chamber Filter Presses

Less peripheral equipment, resulting in lower investment and OPEX costs: Chamber filter presses are reliable and robust in many different applications. The plate pack consists of uniform chamber plates with a recess of 15- 50 mm to receive the filter cake. The standard material for chamber plates is polypropylene.

Possible operating pressures: 6 bar, 15 bar, and 30 bar.

Membrane Filter Presses

Higher DS content obtained with membrane filter presses: Membrane filter plates are designed in the same way as the chamber plates. A flexible membrane is secured to the support body. The membrane is
impermeable and compresses the cake within the chamber after the filtration process has been completed. Liquid or gas can be used as the membrane inflation medium.

Inflation pressures up to 30 bar are possible, and in special cases even higher.

Plate & Frame Filter Presses – Sheet Filters

Quick filter cloth change for process filtraton: The chambers in this type of filter press are formed by combining polypropylene filter plates and frames. This creates chambers of 5-40 mm, depending on frame thickness. Plate and frame type filter presses are suitable for pre-coating filtration, which is used in the beverage industry for clear filtration.

Operating pressures up to 6 bar.

Unlike traditional crossflow filtration methods, the Andritz Dynamic Crossflow Filter (DCF) can concentrate the retentate to achieve a pasty or sludge consistency – making it much more effective.

The overlapping ceramic membrane disks rotate in the same direction to create a turbulent crossflow without using a pump to circulate the rentate. The wall shear stress generated is 50% higher than found in conventional crossflow filters – greatly reducing the formation of a clogging layer, while substantially improving the filtration rate at the same time. This advantage is most evident when dealing with high-viscosity retentates.

The Andritz Decanter Centrifuge D can handle various flow rates, and types of sludge, providing you with state-of-the-art separation for your wastewater plant.

The Andritz Decanter Centrifuge D is suitable for a range of processes:

Dewatering

Thickening

Clarification

Classification

3-phase separation

Key Energy Saving Features:

The High Hydraulic Pressure (HHP) design of the rotating assembly reduces the discharge radius of the clarified liquid (centrate). Besides improved separation characteristics, this design helps to recover the kinetic energy of the fluid to reduce energy consumption by up to 15%.

Working the same way as a jet engine, the TurboJet weir plates recover the remaining kinetic energy of the clarified liquid. By creating liquid jets pointing in the opposite direction to the bowl rotation, the reaction force thus supports bowl rotation. The TurboJet weir plate reduces total power consumption by up to 30% as a stand-alone feature.

Two drive systems: a regenerative back drive and a direct drive. Whereas common back drive systems dissipate the braking energy of the scroll into
heat, the regenerative back drive recovers this energy and feeds it back to the main motor. The direct drive system feeds the scrolling power directly to the scroll and therefore avoids recirculation losses, thus reducing total power consumption by another 5%.

The unmatched TurboWISE solution is key to performance in the raw material feed chamber. The polyurethane liners of the TurboWISE system can be replaced easily on site and serve to accelerate the incoming slurry efficiently. The computational fluid dynamic optimization ensures lowest flocculant consumption, significantly reduced wear, and decreases the total power consumption again by up to 2%.

Lattomatic is an automatic milk and cream fat standardisation system designed to obtain both precise control of the fat content in cream coming from the skimming separator as well as accurate standardisation of the fat content in milk. Lattomatic guarantees exact adjustment of the cream fat content in a range between 30% and 45% fat. The system can calculate and automatically adjust the fat content based on different parameters.

Lattomatic enables accurate dosing of cream to the skimmed milk flow and thus, continuous production of fat-standardized milk. Surplus cream is discharged separately. With its high level of automation, parameter adjustments are possible during operation without stopping the process. The touchscreen panel is user-friendly, easy to set up, and allows direct control of all operations. Signal exchange and operating modes (CIP, water, product) can be changed easily using the control system. Lattomatic can be used to upgrade milk skimming separators and be integrated into existing systems as well as new installations.

Cream separation, either from milk or whey, is a key process in dairy processing.

Gentle treatment of the milk to avoid damaging the fat globules is an essential requirement that Frautech Separators can guarantee thanks to the optimized design in feeding the separator. Under optimal feeding and process conditions, the residual fat in skimmed milk is always at the lowest possible level, i.e. 0.05% or less.

Milk fat standardization with Frautech cream separators can be achieved with the built-in standardizing apparatus that allows fat re-mixing into the skimmed milk for manual adjustment.

How the Frautech Cream Separator Works:

Whole milk or whey is fed under pressure to the separator.

It then flows smoothly into the bowl through the feed pipe and the distributor and starts rising through the rising channels.

Due to the centrifugal force and the milk’s higher specific weight, it is forced towards the periphery of the bowl while the cream is concentrated in the central area.

Both skimmed milk and cream rise along their respective paths and are pumped out or leave the separator, respectively, through enclosed pipes.

Solids are also subjected to the action of the centrifugal force and are pushed to the periphery of the bowl, accumulating in the area that holds the solids, and automatically discharged at preset intervals.

Using a Frautech bacteria removal separator for your milk and whey will significantly improve the quality and shelf life of you products. Undesirable effects caused by bacteria such as acid fermentation and cheese blowing are avoided by using a mechanical separation solution to remove bacteria.

How the Frautech Bacteria Removal Separator Works:

The milk/whey is fed under pressure through an enclosed pipe.

It then flows smoothly into the bowl through the feed pipe and the distributor.

The bacteria and other solids subject to the action of the centrifugal force are forced towards the periphery of the bowl and accumulate in the solids acceleration zone before being automatically discharged at
pre-set intervals.

The clarified milk/whey rises through the disc stack and up the centripetal pump that discharges it through enclosed piping.

The concentrate rises above the upper disc to reach the centripetal pump.

The concentrate can either be discharged or recirculated into the bowl to further concentrate the bacteria for discharge.
